Surgeon’s nightmare

This was  a lady in her early thirties ; she has 2 children , both of whom were delivered by LSCS.

The last child birth was 6 months ago.

She was being evaluated for complaints of  purulent discharge on and off from the scar tissue with  pain.

Her  routine abdomino pelvic ultrasound  scan was normal. The following pictures are acquired with a high resolution 11Mhz transducer.

This revealed unabsorbed  suture and irregular collection

She was taken up for exploratory procedure to remove  the suture remnants.

Absorbable sutures not getting absorbed can occur  rarely and can lead to such complications . The surgeon is always looked at with suspicion by the patient .

This interesting link tells us about a particular suture by a renowned company causing problems and later being withdrawn.

May be there are other brands causing similar problems.
